Fashion Tricks For Snowy Weather

Dressing up for the winters is one thing, but dressing up appropriately for the snowy weather is a whole other thing. India being a geographically diverse country doesn’t experience uniform winters everywhere. Since snow is only restricted to the extreme northern parts, us Indians are quite infatuated with the whole concept of snow.

What I am trying to say is, we find it quite intimidating to dress appropriately for the snowy weather. Say you have a trip planned to Himachal Pradesh in the colder months and it is bound to snow there, will your usual winter clothes suffice? Do we recommend you to shop just for that one trip and spend a fortune on winter gear that you probably won’t get much use out of? No!

By now we all know and own the basics like pullovers and cardigans and jackets, warm fuzzy gloves and socks. But let’s break it down and tweak a few pieces here and there to get yourself the perfect tricks to dress for the snowy weather.

1. The magic of layering: The simple yet effective key to dressing warm but stylish in snowy weather is layering. And let’s be honest, dressing for the cold is incomplete without layering. It’s an art really. But the tricky part is not to look all poofed up and bulky. It all comes together only when you select the right pieces. The right way to start off would be to get your base layers aka thermals right. Repeat after me, ‘Always start with thermals’. Thermals will be your magic ingredient when it comes to layering.

At Kosha we have sleek, soft, versatile and super warm new age thermals made from a special Merino Wool × Bamboo blend. Check out our base layers for him & her. Travelling with kids? Not to worry, we have them for boys & girls as well.

2. Learn to create a shape: Sometimes we can get carried away with all the layering. Especially if you don’t have a solid base that’s going to hug your body and trap in that heat. The basic rule of creating a shape with your outfit is to balance between body hugging and loose fitted clothing items. Even though it is known to all that fitted clothes serve you better in the snow, you can throw in a loose fitted item to balance it out. For example, a chunky sweater and an over-sized coat on top will make you look and feel really uncomfortable and will also restrict your movements. Therefore, a fitted mid layer balanced out with an over-sized jacket would be a much better option. It would keep you warm and cozy without compromising on your style. Plus, jackets can always be sized up depending on the design because who doesn’t like a warm snugly feeling while sipping on some hot chocolate in the snow.

Waterproof, snowproof, water repellent, wind resistant, puffer, ski gear, mountain jacket, fleece lined jackets, 4 in 1 multi climate jacket, kids jackets – the list goes on! At Kosha you can choose jackets to suit not only your style, but also your pocket! All guilt free of animal fibers like down feather, fur or leather without compromising on the most important thing – WARMTH!!! Shop jacket for adults in regular and plus sizes for him / her. We also have jackets for boys & girls.

3. Quality over Quantity: We have all heard of this new minimalist approach of ‘Less is More’. Investing in the right pieces that will serve you for a long period of time is what the approach should be. Even though we are not advocates of following the trends mindlessly, opting for good quality, durable, feature rich, multipurpose clothing is something we make an exception for. Investing in a good thermal set like the merino – bamboo thermals will last you for years and will be useful not only in the snowy weather but also in the moderate temperatures. Merino wool is an amazing material that adjusts according to your body temperature, is odour resistant and extremely lightweight and thin. Hence making it the perfect base layer for winter workout, cool autumn evening walks, chilly spring sunrises. Again a stylish pullover or sweater as a mid layer will help you stay warm even in subzero temperatures if layered right. Now if you are planning to roll in the snow, a water resistant jacket would be a nice option to go for. Quality is really the key here. Good quality means you can layer less yet stay warm and comfy at the same time.

4. Cover the right places: If you didn’t know this already, if your ears and your feet are covered properly, it pretty much keeps your entire body warm. Therefore, wool socks and winter caps are your best friend. Putting on some waterproof gloves or mittens will also help you play with the snow without getting a frostbite. Touch screen winter gloves are the new kid in the block so it becomes easier for you to take the perfect pictures for the ‘gram without having to waste precious moments taking off & putting on your gloves.

Who said you have to compromise on your style in the cold snowy weather?

Investing and selecting the right pieces will take you a long way. These pieces are not just a one-time wear, when not layering them all together, you can wear them individually during the moderate cold temperatures as well.
